The most recent estimate public visitors is now around 1000 people per day, which leads to increasing cost to the County of Hawaii. Finance Director Nancy Crawford said the average cost of running the site is $40k a month plus the equipment cost from the HWY Div. of about $5k a month.

My advice for visitors go there early for parking space and go soon before they begin to charge a entrance fee.

Our B&B is about a 25 minutes drive from Hwy 130. It’s convenience to Pahoe town and ideally have supper when you get through.

The Fourth Annual Hilo Inter-Tribal PowWow will take place May 23, 24 & 25, 2009 at Wailoa River Park in Hilo , Hawai’i. This FREE, family-oriented event starts at 9:00 am and ends at 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, there will be a Veterans’ Honoring Ceremony and the colors will be retired at 4 pm. Grand Entry is at 10 am, all three days. Everyone is invited to experience the sights, sounds, flavors and spirit of Native America through music, dance, storytelling, food, arts and crafts. This is a drug and alcohol free event.

Each morning before Grand Entry, the powwow will start with traditional gourd dancing by Hawaii’s newly formed Gourd Society made up of Native American veterans. Specials guests and performers will include the California Intertribal Bird Singers with their gourd rattles and special songs, the Wapato Indian Club, a youth group from the State of Washington, hip-hop artist Brian Frejo and Culture Shock Camp, the Wildhorse Drum and Dancers from Southern California, and Troy “Good Medicine” De Roche, a world-renown Blackfeet flute player who currently lives on the Big Island.

A place filled with mystery you won’t believe.  Stunning land that is totally destroyed by hot red lava flowing from mountain top to the Pacific Ocean entrance way.  Hot stream shooting up 200′ with cracking and popping sound as it roll into the ocean water.  The salt water boils to boiling point and lava harden than converts to RAW COURSE LAND.  Every year the Big Island increase land mass, which are called, bench marks.  These bench mark is the black jarred edges from land formed.  In fact, last year over 1/4 miles broke off and fell into the ocean as if a large piece of gram cracker snap in half.  You’ve only read a little tip of the iceberg of Hawaii’s Mother Nature Mystery.
